If you like old classic cars or hot rods, you’ll love these. Each collector car that I create is made entirely of wood, and is 100% handmade by me. My intent is to capture the flavor of automobile styling of the 1930s, '40s and '50s. My art is a story in unique and colorful woods as well as an attempt to keep alive the nostalgic feelings I have for Classic Cars and Hot Rods.
After a career in woodworking including everything from Cabinetry to Furniture, and rocking horses to rocking chairs, I now have the joyful privilege of combining my passions for both woodworking and old cars into the creation of Knot Rods.
In an entirely handmade process that begins at the drawing board, each piece of wood is chosen and crafted to showcase the best it has to offer in color, grain and character for an individual car. Each model slowly comes to life by way of many involved and specifically developed techniques. By the time each car receives its final coats of finish, it has developed a personality of its own.
All Knot Rods (with the exception of 'Box Cars') are build with a solid hardwood body and all have wheels that actually roll. These Collectibles incorporate our classic designs with a complete range of body styles, options & accessories, with our 'Woodies' being the elite of our line.
I was born in San Luis Obispo, California, grew up in Atascadero, and have lived in California all my life. I fixed up and drove a Model A Ford to High School in the early 1960s. After returning from overseas serving in the Air Force for four years, I met my wife, Susie. We married and have 4 wonderful children. Moving across California a few times, we landed in El Dorado County in 1989 and still reside in a lovely agricultural community here. We have had many businesses and done many things in our lives, but Knot Rods is different and very special to us. We love doing it together. No employees, lots of challenges, but life is good.
We hope you will enjoy looking through our site to learn more about Knot Rods.
